Wilderness Placement.

Making the decision to send your child to a Wilderness Therapy program is one of the biggest you will make at this phase of their lives. Typically, most children go from Wilderness to some sort of aftercare setting, such as a Residential Treatment Center or Therapeutic Boarding School. We think this is appropriate in only a limited number of cases. For most families, the intervention of Wilderness, when properly prepared for, is enough to realign the family dynamics sufficiently enough to allow their child to come home after completing their treatment. We have developed relationships with programs and therapists who are open to a shift towards preparing your child for returning home, rather than moving on to long term treatment post-wilderness. In the case that further treatment is indicated we have partnered with an Educational Consultant who understands our model and will be able to assist you in placement in the most appropriate setting.

Therapeutic Transport.

  • Meeting with your family at your home or a place of your choosing. We would approach your loved one about the wilderness program and help them process the decision before leaving. We will make every attempt to provide an emotionally safe environment for the entire family during this process.

  • We will handle all travel arrangements via air or car. If, for safety reasons, we need to assist you in hiring specially trained therapeutic security in addition to our staff, we will set up those accommodations.

  • We will accompany your loved one to the wilderness program and ensure a physically and emotionally safe handoff to the professional staff.

  • We will follow up with you throughout the process and once we have left your loved one in capable hands.

  • We will ensure you have all contact information for wilderness program staff, and a basic preliminary understanding of their policies regarding communication with the staff and with your family.

Parent Wilderness Experience.

You have committed to sending your child to a Wilderness Therapy program. They are in safe hands, experiencing a slowing and synching with the natural rhythms of the world as the begin the process of exploring who they are and envisioning their futures. Many families face a disconnect between what their child experiences in a wilderness program and what they experience remaining at home. We hope to help bridge that divide with a small taste of the outdoor experience that your child is having. A fundamental pillar of our coaching of parents with returning children is creating a home agreement that is values based. We have noticed a pattern where in many parents struggle to either identify or articulate their values in a concrete manner. This results in unclear or nebulous boundaries because they have been based on values that aren’t truly those of the parents. This can cause boundary pushing as well as parents that don’t follow through with holding the boundaries because they weren’t really invested in them to begin with. We will do some group activities, but also feature a mini ‘solo’ experience for parents to spend some time slowing down and allowing their brains to settle into an exploration of what their values are and why they are important for them and their families’.
